Welcome to the International FERENCZI24 Psychoanalytical Happening

Welcome to FERENCZI24, the second psychoanalytical happening organized by the Free Association Lisbon and developed in collaboration with Ferenczi 150th Anniversary International Conference. This unique event aims to pay tribute to and raise public awareness of Sándor Ferenczi, an emblematic figure in the history of the psychoanalytic movement. The idea is to organize public readings across the planet of a selected work by Ferenczi of your choice and to stream them in real-time on the Free Association's Facebook page. We would like this to be an enjoyable get-together, both locally and globally!

 

This year marks the 150th anniversary of Ferenczi’s birth and so this is a great time to celebrate his spirit, work, and legacy. We, at the Free, are excited to organize FERENCZI24 as a pre-event of the Ferenczi 150th Anniversary International Conference to be held in Budapest in June 9-11, 2023.

In essence, hourly readings will take place from East to West in 24 host cities in countries across the world over 24 hours.

A little background. In 2019 the Free organized a similar event to pay tribute to Sigmund Freud. (You can learn more about FREUD24 here.) We started as a very small group but quickly enough colleagues and friends from all over the world joined the project by organizing their own local events with the help of our team of coordinators. When it all came together, we celebrated all day long. It was an extraordinary moment full of diversity, creativity, and fun! 

 

Now back to you. If you are up to doing something with a slightly different edge about the so-called "enfant terrible" of psychoanalysis, if you appreciate a public psychoanalytic reading followed by open-minded conversation, if you enjoy sliding into the funk zone of a vibrant international community, then we’d be delighted to have you join us. We suggest that you start by exchanging ideas with friends and colleagues about organizing a local FERENCZI24 event and then form a group that could function as a local FERENCZI24 organizing committee. So that things might become a little more concrete, below you’ll find some general guidelines.
